South Yorkshire and Humber 2011

         WINNERS & HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Building on success at building excellence awards

South Yorkshire & Humber local authorities held their fourth annual Building Excellence Awards, on Thursday 14th April, 2011 at Forest Pines near Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire.

The awards recognise building excellence across the region through 2010.

Builders and developers undertaking projects in Sheffield, Rotherham, Doncaster, North Lincolnshire, Hull, and Barnsley were all eligible to take part in this highly respected, prestigious, Building Control Awards Scheme.

The projects were judged on a range of criteria including compliance with the Building Regulations, accessibility and inclusive environment, sustainability, and client / customer satisfaction.

The guests at the glittering ceremony enjoyed a champagne reception, a delicious three-course meal, entertainment from Peter Kay Tribute, Lee Lard and Andy the Magician, and a charity raffle for Humber Rescue, where prizes included Lee Westwood’s golf shoes and a boat ride on the Humber, as well as a number of locally donated prizes. Humber Rescue raised £1298 over the course of the day.

The event was sponsored by Sandtoft Tiles and JS Supplies, together with national sponsors Exova Warringtonfire, the Roger Bullivant Group, and LABC New Homes Warranty.

The projects that have been successful in the South Yorkshire and Humber Building Excellence Awards 2011 are also eligible for nomination to the National LABC Finals, to be held in London later in the year.

This is a long-standing partnership between the trust and Doncaster Building Control, which has been in place for over 11 years.  This recent project involved resolving the split site when dealing with both children and neonates, responding to feedback from the service users, and to designing an environment to promote a feeling of wellbeing.  The team had a number of limitations including the design needed to be incorporated within an existing building and within time constraints given.
